The Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital at Sandy Bay

Located at Sandy Bay in Pokfulam, the Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital at Sandy Bay was formerly run by the Society for the Relief of Disabled Children. It also provides treatment, rehabilitative services and accommodation for patients over 18 years old, especially orthopaedic patients with spinal problems.

The Children's Habilitation Institute (CHI) is the only center within the Hospital Authority with the facilities of child assessment services - a continuum habilitation and rehabilitation program. Children with various neuro-developmental problems are managed through a transdisciplinary team approach. It also serves as a model center for habilitation and rehabilitation of children with chronic handicap in China and in South East Asia. In addition, it is the first and only international center to be subscribed for the use of “Wee FIM” (Functional Independence Measure for children) for outcome measure of rehabilitation.

To further develop into a tertiary center, CHI has expanded its services, including motor rehabilitation management of spasticity such as selective dorsal rhizotomy and Botulinium toxin injection, oromotor assessment and rehabilitation, communication and visual rehabilitation, auditory rehabilitation with cochlear implant, neuro-pulmonary rehabilitation including sleep studies and rehabilitation program for ventilator dependent children, etc.
