Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association

Established in 1987, the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association started off as a self-assistance organization for parents. Its objective was to offer emotional and information support to families with members suffering from Down syndrome. Today, it has branched out into offering a wide range of services. For 23 years since its inception, the Association has been committed to improving the quality of life of people with Down syndrome or other disabilities, as well as their families. In order to help them unleash their capabilities and potentials, we have been devoted to providing timely training and opportunities for them through, among others, arts, sports and other activities. Our purpose is to enhance their self-confidence and enable them to grow up cheerfully.

We are now proactively developing our integrated family support service, strengthening our vocational rehabilitation services, as well as reviewing and improving the operation of all social enterprises. Despite challenges ahead, the Association will continue to review and study the issue of aging individuals with Down syndrome, and caring and services they will need. Meanwhile, the Association will keep a close eye on the impact of the Minimum Wage Ordinance, if enforced, on individuals with Down syndrome and other disabilities, and will fight for their employment opportunities and their rights.
